For the past couple years, Micael Habte ran his successful Upper Cup Coffee Company as a small wholesaler, roasting beans to sell to coffee shops, restaurants, and retail locations. Now, Upper Cup joins the diverse Parsons Ave business lineup with a retail coffee shop and espresso bar.
According to their website, myuppercupcoffee.com, Upper Cup begins the roasting process by selecting high caliber beans to be roasted in small batches. Some of their roasts include Brazilian Montanha de Diamante, Brazilian Santos, Costa Rican Tarrazu, Ethiopian Sidamo, and Olam Honduras.
In an interview with ColumbusUnderground.com, Habte explains that his family migrated to Columbus in the 1980s from the Horn of Africa region. Upper Cup’s signature roast, Ethiopian Sidamo, helps to raise funds to benefit The Grace Center of Ethiopia, which assists children with educational and medical services.
Currently, Upper Cup is serving coffee, tea, and other specialty drinks. Make sure to bring your own cup for a discount. Pre-packaged foods are available for snacking.
