The OTENA Green Committee has compiled a list of resources to help you begin the process of implementing earth-friendly and energy-efficient practices in your everyday life.
- Get Green Columbus: The City of Columbus’ overarching green initiative, funded in part by a grant from SWACO, and managed by the Mayor’s Office of Environmental Stewardship
- Columbus Parks & Recreation: A variety of programs for kids and adults alike.
- MORPC Energy & Environment section: Includes a “Green Calendar” of many upcoming events throughout Central Ohio.
- SWACO (Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio): Local recycling resources and yard waste collection.
- Rumpke: To sign up for curbside recycling.
- Curbside Recycling… Are you doing it right?: Columbus Underground article about how to recycle.
- Local Matters: Information on local food events, farmer’s markets, retail locations, and more.
- Circle 77 Community Food Co-op: Exists to increase the accessibility of fresh food in the Near East Side and greater Columbus, Ohio by creating a year round market place which connects consumers and producers of locally grown foods and other agricultural products.
- Farmer’s Markets on the Near East Side: A list of all the farmer’s markets that service our area.
- Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District: A great resource for backyard conservation efforts.
- It’s a Crime: Report litter bugs online. Simply note the vehicle color, make/model, time and location of the incident. Items as small as a cigarette can be reported.
- Mother Nature Network: Good site with a lot of information from building a rain barrel to making your own household cleaner.
- Earth 911: A great resource for information, as well as a search feature of all the drop off and pick up recycling locations throughout the neighborhood.
