Summer was swell, but fall is fun and autumn activities are abundant in (and around) Olde Towne East. Here is a quick list of some ideas for those looking to embrace this time of year in the near east side:
September 25th-February 8th 2014. Bruce Monro exhibit at Franklin Park Conservatory: Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, 5–11pm & select Saturdays to be announced. Bruce Munro’s imaginative and magical light-based works create a captivating evening experience at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. October 1st, November 5th & December 3rd. Olde Towne East Nights at Yellow Brick Pizza: There is something about the crisp air of autumn that makes pizza taste even better! Join your neighbors and friends at Yellow Brick Pizza for OTENA Night, held the first Tuesday of every month from 5PM until 11:30PM, and receive 20% off you dine in food, excluding alcohol. Applicable to anyone who lives in Olde Towne East as long as they can show some proof of residence or their OTENA membership card.
October 5th & 6th. Pumpkin Patch at Franklin Park Conservatory: Browse hundreds of hand-blown glass pumpkins created by local artists, or make your own under the guidance of an experienced glass blower during an individual, 30-minute time slot. Register at fpconservatory.org or call 614-715-8022.
October 6th. Fall Paper Workshop at CS Gallery: In this fun afternoon session instructor(s) will introduce traditional and experimental paper making techniques. The traditional process of making paper is centered around the concept of catching and separating beaten plant fibers from a vat of water. Pulp is suspended on the surface of the water and is then strained from a vat of water by a screen stretched on a frame. Sculptural and experimental techniques will also be introduced. October 26th & 27th. Trick or Treat at the Conservatory: Come in your costume and visit seven trick-or-treat stations as you explore the Conservatory’s indoor gardens. Decorate a treat bucket to take with you as you collect your loot. 1PM-4PM at Franklin Park Conservatory. Free with admission.
October 31st – Halloween in the Garden: Details coming soon!
October 31st. City of Columbus Beggars’ Night & Trick or Treat: Be on the look out for little ghosts and goblins as they trick or treat throughout Olde Towne East. 6-8PM
October: Visit an east side haunted house: Rumor has it that the Kelton House on Town St & Washington Ave is haunted by four entities. Records of ghostly situations have been listed at hauntedhouses.com. Make time to go on a tour and find out for yourself. Tour times are listed on the Kelton House website
November 23rd. St Jude Give Thanks. Walk: Join St. Jude supporters in the Columbus community and in more than 75 cities nationwide in the St. Jude Give thanks. Walk. to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.The walk will be a 1mile/5K followed by an indoor after party! There will be live music, face painting, magician, caricature drawer, Games2U game truck, local vendors, breakfast, and more! Begins at Franklin Park Conservatory.
